Joseph's Frank pyramid - Laglio
In the cemetery of Laglio it welcomes us a curious funeral monument to form of Pyramid, container the bare ones of the famous physician Joseph Frank.
Joseph Frank was born October 22 nd 1771 to Ratastad in the granducato of Baden, from Elizabeth Willingsbak and Johann Peter Frank, prestigious physician, teacher to Gottiga, Pavia, Vienna great friend of Alexander Volta.
Joseph Frank studied physics and medicine to Pavia, it was student of the Volta, after the degree it taught in Poland, where physician of the House Imperiale was named and honored of the orders of S. Vladimiro and S.Anna. He moved on the lake Como to 1829 and it purchased villa Gallietta in the place Borgo Vico, comes on the Lario under sickly conditions of health, here it repurchased form and health. To lake Como he wrote his greater work (Praxeos medicine universae praecepta). In the years of his permanence on the lake Como, it became famous for his magnanimity,
to the needy patients, it free lent his cares and it also gave them the medicines. Fallen in love him of Laglio, it chose his banks for the eternal abode. He died October 17 th 1842 in his villa, in the 1852 ten years later it was buried in the great pyramid, tall 20 ms. and wide 13 ms., for the construction of which he had left in the will the sum of 25 thousand franchis. On the headstone to the intern some grave the dedication: You that you set the foot in this threshold, you wish peace a man that was really among the men human.
Joseph Frank was a controversial man for that times, the years that he lived on the lake Como, he lived them in pompous way, legendary they were his receptions, he always succeeded in surprising and to marvel his guests; it was also a vain man, it conceived himself the pyramid monument and place wanted him on the shore of the lake Como, where to the epoch they passed the three quarters of the illustrious European travellers. To the death he left many of his possessions to Laglio, both for the poor men and to the church of the country, Joseph never forgot him of the needy people, that he had taken care of without pretending nothing in change for years.
