 Lecco is
panoramically the more beautiful city of the Lombardy.Here the Adda exits from the Lake Como forming the Garlate lake; around one large cerchia of full of rocks mounts from the shapes bizzarre: the Resegone, the Two Hands, the S.Martino and, on the other side of Moregallo lake. Remarkable it is the tourist importance, alpine sports Lecco (famous is the spiders of Lecco), upgraded from optimal systems of gone back. Lived in preistorica age, fortified village, then roman town hall, important village in the Middle Ages, free Common in XII the century, therefore enemy of Como in the war of the ten years, Lecco passed then under the giogo of the Tower and the Visconti. In the Middle Ages in the working of cocoons and the spinning of the silk, to the days ours in the industry iron worker and metalworker, today Lecco is placed between the more active centers of the Lombardy. The son more illustrious than Lecco is Antonio Stoppani (1824-1891), student of natural sciences, but the celebrity of Lecco is tied above all to Alexander Manzoni that gives young person today inhabited in the settecentesca villa of the Caleotto (Manzoniano museum), that here he had inspiration for many pages of the Promises Spouses and to which the city has dedicated one statue of Francesco Confalonieri. |
